Name Change A Success

Thanks to our customers, vendors, and employees, our name change from HVAC Systems Service, Inc. to Mechanical Technologies Inc has been extremely smooth and successful. Our new identity as MTI is both easily-recognized and widely approved of in the contracting industry. Though they say it takes a year for a new corporate identity to catch on, the positive reaction to our new name was immediate.

Official name-change ceremonies took place on June 28, 1999. During an employee cookout, we removed all of the old truck decals and applied new "MTI" logos to celebrate the name change. Shirts and caps bearing the new company name were distributed. The new name and logo can now be found on everything from mugs, to pens, to belt buckles.

We feel that our identity change coincided perfectly with the millennium, and we're now ready for a new era as MTI.

Tech Watch

MTI is working on new automation for Indoor Air Quality requiring DNR and OSHA standards. We recently installed a system to monitor water overflow for DNR permits. Both systems are working well, and we will keep you posted on their progress in future newsletters.

If you have a special application you would like us to look into, please give Rick Bushey or Jim Taylor a call. We will assist you in any way we can.

MTI Newsletter is published twice a year by Mechanical Technologies Inc., with the sole purpose of updating and educating our customers.

A Letter From The President

It's amazing how fast 1999 flew by. Though all of our staff and technicians were on-call Dec. 31, 1999, I am happy to report we did not have one call or emergency related to Y2K.

Now that Y2K is behind us, we can concentrate on new projects for 2000. Recently, we installed a new control package for a utility company; there are only four others like it. We hope to have two more started by mid-February, utilizing the Internet. The technology is state of the art and very price efficient. We have four demos to give before March 1, 2000. Customer interest is increasing.

Most of these features include manufacturing and office indoor air quality. Also, our Piping Division is currently working on a project for Spancrete Industries.

Customer Service

To ensure that we can keep up with customer service demands, we are making a few changes this year. In March, we are installing a complete new phone system.

MTI Employees

To meet customer and internal needs, MTI continues to add new employees and hear about promotions here in the MTI News.

Carrie Kriescher

Carrie Kriescher joined us as an Office Assistant in May 1999 and quickly moved up to Assistant Office Manager. Carrie adapted well to our system and also added new ways of streamlining our business documents. Carries has great computer skills and has fit in well with the rest of the company's employees.

We are also installing a new computer program, which will provide a more effective customer, equipment, and data information base. We are also looking at upgrading our Internet capabilities to handle our control line.

In-House Training

We challenge our employees to continue to learn new and updated ways of doing business. Even though 30 percent of our employees are taking outside classes, we encourage in-house classes. We have some classes coming up on Advanced Air Balancing, Welding, and Controls. This is employee-driven and will enable us to provide better service to our customer.

Finally, I'd like to thank you, our customer, for your ongoing support. As MTI continues to grow and explore new technologies, we will continue to put your needs first. Please feel free to contact me or any of the MTI staff with any questions or comments.

Rick Bushey, President

Zachary De Villers
Zac joined us in July 1999 as a full time Estimator. While Zac's responsibilities include estimating sheet metal, pipefitting, and controls, his design skills help him fit perfectly into his role.

New Apprentices
Emery Orlikowski and Brian Engebos are now indentured in the State Apprenticeship Programs. Emery is in the service Apprenticeship Program and Brian is in the Sheet Metal Apprenticeship Program. Both are 5-year status and are monitored by state unions.
